When a new baby is born into a family in Pakistan, the government needs to know about it. The government has a special department called NADRA, which stands for the National Database and Registration Authority. NADRA is responsible for keeping track of every single person living in the country.
For 18+, NADRA gives out an identity card called a CNIC. But for children who are under 18 years old, NADRA gives out a special document called a Child Registration Certificate, which most people simply call a B-Form or a CRC.
In the past, if parents wanted to get a B-Form for their children, they had to wake up very early in the morning, travel to a crowded NADRA office, and stand in long lines for hours. Thankfully, technology has changed things. Today, parents can apply for a B-Form online using a computer or a smartphone app called Pak ID.
While this online system is very useful, it does not mean parents will never have to visit an office. Sometimes, the government still needs parents to come in person to double-check their information. This guide explains exactly how the whole process works from start to finish.
What is a B-Form and Why is it Important?
A B-Form is a legal piece of paper that acts as a child’s official identity before they grow up and get an adult ID card. It contains important details about the child, such as their full name, their date of birth, the place where they were born, and the names and identity numbers of their mother and father.
This paper is really important for many reasons:
- School Admission: When a child wants to enroll in a school, the principal will ask for the B-Form to verify the child’s age and real name.
- Opening a Bank Account: Children who want to save money in a special minor bank account need this document.
- Getting a Passport: If a family wants to travel to another country for a vacation, the child cannot get a passport without a B-Form.
- Medical Care: Some big hospitals require the document to register children for long-term healthcare records.
Can You Really Apply for a CRC Online?
Yes, you can. NADRA created a digital system to make life easier for families. Parents can use two different online pathways:
- The Pak ID Mobile Application: This is an app that can be downloaded onto a mobile phone.
- The NADRA Online Portal: This is an official website that can be opened on a laptop or desktop computer.
By using these digital tools, busy parents do not have to take a day off from work just to submit basic paperwork. They can fill out the forms while sitting on their sofa at home.
Requirements before Applying
Before starting the online process, parents need to gather a few essential items. Having these ready prevents the app from logging out or causing errors mid-way.
- The latest version of the Pak ID App installed on a smartphone.
- A valid CNIC or NICOP belonging to at least one parent.
- The official birth certificate of the child.
- A stable and fast internet connection.
- A debit or credit card to pay the online fee.
- A recent, high-quality photograph of the child.
How to Apply Online for CRC Step by Step
Applying for a B-Form online follows a specific order of steps. If a step is skipped, the system will not let the application go through. Here is exactly how parents do it:
1. Install the Pak ID App:
Download the official Pak ID App from your mobile device’s app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) and create a brand new account if you are a new user.
2. Sign In:
Log into the application using your registered email address and secure account password.
3. Open Certificate Services:
From the main home screen of the app, locate and select the section named Certificates, then tap on New Application.
4. Select Child Registration Certificate (CRC):
Choose Child Registration Certificate (CRC) from the menu of available identity services displayed on the screen.
5. Verify Parent Information:
Enter the active parent’s adult CNIC number and complete the required security identity verification steps.
6. Enter Child Details:
Provide all the true details of the child including their Full name, Date of birth, Gender, Place of birth, and any other required personal information. Double-check every single detail before moving forward.
7. Upload Required Documents:
Upload clean, bright copies of the child’s birth certificate, the parent’s CNIC or NICOP, and the child’s recent photograph using your phone’s camera.
8. Complete Biometric Verification:
Follow the detailed on-screen instructions to complete the fingerprint verification using your phone’s camera lens and provide a digital signature.
9. Pay the Application Fee:
Select your preferred processing speed category and complete the payment safely using your digital credit or debit card details.
10. Submit the Application:
Review all the entered family information one last time on the summary page and click to submit your application to the NADRA system.
When Do You Still Need to Visit the NADRA Office?
Even though the online system is excellent, it is not fully automatic. It is a hybrid process, which means it is half online and half offline for certain families.
A parent and child will still need to pack their bags and go to a physical NADRA center if any of the following things happen:
1. Biometric Verification Problems
Biometrics means using a machine to read a person’s fingerprints or scan their eyes. Sometimes, the phone camera cannot capture a parent’s fingerprint clearly enough for security purposes. If the computer cannot verify the fingerprint, the parent must visit an office to press their thumb on a professional biometric scanner.
2. Data Mismatch
If the name written on the local birth certificate does not match the names stored in the official NADRA family tree database, the computer will stop the application. A human officer at a real desk must look at the papers to resolve the confusion.
3. Corrections or Updates
If a mistake was made on an old document and a parent needs to change the spelling of a name or correct a birth year, this cannot be done entirely online. Changing official records requires legal proof that must be shown to a NADRA supervisor in person.
Can Overseas Pakistanis Use This System?
Yes, Pakistanis who live in other countries, like the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, or America, can absolutely use the Pak ID app to apply for a B-Form. This is very helpful because traveling across the world just for a piece of paper is impossible for most people.
However, overseas applications sometimes face extra security checks. Parents might need to connect the child’s record to a special identity card called a NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis). In complex situations, they might even need to visit the nearest Pakistani Embassy or Consulate in their current country to verify who they are.
How Long Does the Processing Take?
The time it takes for NADRA to finish making the B-Form depends entirely on the type of fee the parent chose during the application phase.
| Application Type | Processing Time | Cost |
| Executive | 1 Day | 500 PKR |
| Normal | 7 Days | 50 Rupees |
The countdown clock for these days begins only after the application is fully submitted and the money has been successfully paid through the online system.
To see why the online system is popular, we can compare it to going to the office directly.
- Online App (Pak ID): The convenience is very high because you stay at home. The speed is identical to the office. A visit to the building is only required sometimes if there is a mistake or a biometric issue.
- NADRA Office Visit: The convenience is medium because you must travel and wait in line. The speed is identical. A visit to the building is always required.
